Quite a Life

If there is such thing as a lovey death-
my Grandmother experienced it yesterday

It was so peaceful

It was a gentle exit from this world

We told her to take Grandpa's hand & never let go

We love you grandma and we'll miss you

But we know we will see you again

The following are early pictures of my Grandma
She had quite the life:

As a young child

Nursing Cadette

(Everyone says i look like her- what do you think?)

Bras & Heaven

Grandma & Me

Today I had a long talk with Grandma
I told her how much i love her

My aunt Helen & I swapped Grandma stories
We decided to give her some advice on heaven

(Because we know a thing or two about heaven)

This was our advice:

If you get to heaven
and they say that you have to wear a bra
RUN FOR THE EXIT
because you are NOT in heaven

We think that will be helpful.

Going Home

Photo complements my cousin Lauren

We took my Grandma home today
Soon she will be at home in heaven

We sat beside her bedside & reminisced
we laughed & we cried

i sat by her bed
my eyes danced around her beautiful room
i noticed a cross-stitch that i hadn't seen before
 In faint colors it read:

 "Upon this neatly woven web
Intertwined with softly glowing thread
I leave my name for all to see
As times goes by remember me
 Mary Hughes"

We love you grandma & we'll never forget you.

When it's time give Grandpa a hug for me
Hold his hand really tight
Please tell him we haven't forgotten him either

Love you.

Brave Little Toaster

When i was little i loved the movie:
"The Brave Little Toaster"
I watched it A LOT
i mean A LOT, A LOT

Whenever i got a shot at the doctors
my Mom would say:
"You're such a brave little toaster"

It became code for:
you are strong, you are brave, & i am proud of you.

It became a saying laced with love and familiarity

Today i was a "brave little toaster"

Living with chronic pain is hard, and mornings are the worst

Matthew helped me out of bed,
found me clothes to wear, & made me breakfast

He helped me to the car

I drove to yoga-
it is one of the few things that helps

I cried because it hurt, it hurt so bad

tears were on my yoga mat

Being a "brave little toaster" does not
mean accomplishing some tremendous goal

It means having the courage
to wake up every morning & get out bed

So today i'm a "brave little toaster"

And i'm proud of that.
